This is our 5th cruise with AmaWaterways. This time, on the “doublewide” AmaMagna. This February 18 2024 sailing was one of the first Feb sailings offered by Ama. The ship is amazing, same capacity (198) as a narrower River Cruise ship, but twice as wide. Huge staterooms, 4 eating venues, a library, cinema and wellness studio. The crew, even though only their 2nd cruise together, was totally in sync. Service and food was absolutely top notch and creative. Excursions were diverse, and as with all Ama cruises, offered hiking and biking options as well as Gentle, Regular and Active levels for walking excursions. The Cruise Director, Radi, was exceptional, ensuring every need was met, and generating energy and excitement for the daily activities. The excursions of Buda, and Pest, Bratislava, and Durstein were especially great. Vienna was wonderful and Ama offered a special concert excursion that was optional for folks who were interested. The Captain of the Magna was engaging, and made himself available and accessible during the cruise. We wondered if the weather would be bitter and cold, but temps were in the high 40s/low 50s, so it was exceptionally pleasant and easy to be outside. There were 3 families with kids on board. Teenagers did great, and found plenty to do. However the younger children (under 12) were at loose ends since excursions are not geared for small children, and there is not a lot to do on the ship for younger kids. Highly recommend this cruise for adults and teenagers, even in February!
