Silver Cloud has an amazing crew in all departments. Our cabin was well-appointed and comfortable, the restaurants were very good, front desk very helpful. The Expedition team were superb, and great fun too. An expedition cruise has a different vibe to a trip cruise. It is full of anticipation and excitement and every day can change from the immediate itinerary owing to weather, wildlife and other factors. We had to run from weather systems after South Georgia, which meant that we couldn't visit Elephant Island. The diversion took us past the biggest iceberg in the world that had just moved out of the Weddell Sea after 40 years. Three times the size of NYC, this was an amazing sighting. At the end of a voyage full of superlatives, with strict biosecurity when boarding the zodiacs/going ashore, which is so necessary to protect the area, we awoke on the final morning to find we were cruising past Cape Horn, which had been removed from the itinerary prior to the cruise owing to time constrictions. But the captain managed it anyway. We were very happy with our choice of ship but would use our own hotel choice rather than try to check in with all the other cruise guests at the start and finish. Aboard was great. Ashore arrangements didn't work and detract from the wonderful ship experience and crew.

Cabin Review

Deluxe veranda midships, deliberately chosen in case of rough seas particularly in The Drake Passage. It is well-appointed, comfortable and has sufficient room to sleep, sit and eat at table without feeling cramped, and a veranda holding two chairs and a table plus ample standing/movement room. The moveable TV screen (showing all cruise arrangements etc., as well as movies, is above the fridge, with a desk area and a chest of drawers completing the unit along that part of the wall. The walk-in wardrobe with safe is good if you don't travel with too much luggage. A decent shower with seat/shelf, the loo beside, and vanity basin with storage and shaver point nearest the door. All pretty standard layout. It works well.
