We chose Regent for my husband's 70th birthday celebration. We spent a lot of money on this, but having sailed with Regent years ago (pre-NCL) we believed that we would get the ultra-luxurious experience we were paying for. We did not. There is little point in repeating everything related by previous reviewers - we completely agree that the ship is too old, noisy and cramped to be described as ultra-luxury accommodation. The food is fine - but not great, and sometimes not even that good. Signs of penny-pinching including serving only HALF a tiny slice of ham with eggs Benedict, and diluting the orange juice. Soundproofing in some cabins is almost non-existent - we were saying 'bless you' when our neighbour sneezed. Over-loud announcements were piped into the cabin every day plus other announcements constantly audible from the corridor. Mould around the pool area. Flowers on the dining tables allowed to stay in place long after they had drooped and died.

The much-vaunted included excursions were all-too-frequently like an OAP outing in groups of 30, and involved a lot of waiting around and sitting on coaches. The guides were of very variable quality and, the worst thing IMO, the Regent Destinations team did not go on the trips to quality check them, nor did they take any responsibility for disappointing experiences. They also failed to provide accurate port information - resulting in our nearly missing a third-party excursion.

Embarkation was the worst we've ever experienced - entirely down to Regent's mis-management.

Cabin Review

Penthouse Suite

We were in a Penthouse C cabin which was large and comfortable, with a walk-in wardrobe and a bath. The bathroom looked a bit tired, but all was fully functional.

Port Reviews

Bali

Awful. Over-commercialised. Crowded. Traffic appalling.

Airlie Beach

The ship anchored off Shute Harbour, not Airlie Port as we were told. Had to get a bus to our meeting point and only just made it. We were saved by fabulous staff from Carnival Cruises who really helped us out - unlike the Regent staff who just shrugged! But we took a flight over the Great Barrier Reef, which was absolutely fabulous and highly recommended.
