Expectations were high as we flew to South Africa on time {the worry of travelling BA behind us} to find a totally disjointed hotel selected by Silverseas. Well, it’s only one night, it can only get better from here... or so we thought thinking positively.

Next day came and we took a private transfer to the ship. We arrived at the terminal to find around 50 people queuing in front and an hour or so later we were still in the same queue. Someone came from the ship and shouted out what was going on…. it appeared being communicated down the line… the ship’s port side systems had failed and we needed to board to check in. Simple only 600 people and we were likely in the first 100 it should be reasonably quick.

First, we queued for border control which was quick and then queued for security which appeared to being used as a buffer before you jointed another queue to board the ship. Queued at the gang plank as it could only take so many… another buffer. On the ship at last only 2 hours or so but wait even more queues as we did a full circuit of the ship to finally get our stateroom cards. Not a good start but we did get to know a few of our fellow passengers and had a good laugh about it.
