Sail Date: Jan 2024

We wanted some winter sun and friends had recommended Saga. We had never sailed with them before but do prefer smaller ships to the large monstrosities that the 5-6,000 passengers. Very good journey to Portsmouth and very smooth embarcation, our cabin was ready when we boarded. The cabin was very clean and the bathroom adequate the only negative was the lack of room in front of the wardrobe. The problems started the first night as we had to stay in Port because of an impending storm. That time stretched to most of the next day. The captain spoke a lot but said nothing, that would continue throughout the cruise. When we finally set sail there was suddenly a 'problems' spent the night circling Lyme Bay. Again vague mutterings from the captain. When we finally got going it was pretty obvious the schedule was ripped to ribbons. Not to bore you with it but instead of overnight in Funchal we had barely a day, we went to La Palma and Tenerife as expected but Gran Canaria and Lanzarote were removed from the itinerary. So instead of six days in warmer climes it was halved to three with a hell of a lot of sea days, not what we had booked for.

On board the food in the main restaurant and the speciality ones was very good. The grill not so and that place was collision central. Entertainment on the whole was good, mixed, something for everyone and the guest speakers were good again something for all tastes. The crew were excellent, so helpful and always smiling . Disembarkation went very smoothly, we were off the ship, luggage collected our driver was there ready and waiting and we were home in less than an hour. Would we book again with Saga? The jury is out on that one and it would have been nice if the captain in his farewell speech had apologised for what want wrong rather than blathering on about two weeks in a five star hotel! If that

is what we wanted two weeks in a five star that's what we would have booked We booked a cruise that is supposed to have destinations!

Cabin Review

Very clean comfy bed, which had 'squeaky' pillows, don't ask! Adequate space apart from in front of the wardrobe which was very tight. Adequate bathroom again very clean with a walk in shower, large fluffy towels and towelling robes. Small balcony with a couple of chairs and a small table. The cabin was very quiet so a good night's sleep was had every night
