If you check out the NCL Viva tour videos on Youtube, you will get a far better grasp of how the ship is laid out than I can present here. However, let me offer a few tips:

All cabins 9750 and lower are located right above the Viva theater that turns into a disco at night. If you can't sleep with thump-thump-thump until 12:30 in the AM, stay elsewhere.

The cabin itself is very comfortable, though the A/C system dumps air directly down on the bed. Result for us: a head cold by end of week.

Port Reviews

Tortola

You can never go wrong with an excursion to the Soggy Dollar Bar. Take the earlier option if you are able to make sure you get a beach chair

Barbados

Please be advised that the excursion to the Heritage Railway consists of a 45 minute bumpy bus ride (one way) to take a 20 minute train ride crammed together on hard seats. Yes, it's informative. Yes, it's definitely uncomfortable. Then you have to endure a longer ride to the port due to rush hour on the island. Never again!

St. Maarten

Best of all the ports. Definitely feel safe here. Take a water taxi ($7) to Phillipsburg and have fun. Beach chairs and drink packages available...a great gouda cheese store...casinos...shopping
