We took the 31 day cruise option (Nov 15-Dec 16 2023) - Fort Lauderdale to Buenos Aries with the express purpose of doing the Straits of Magellan. We have cruised HAL many times (we are 4 Star travelers) and have enjoyed every trip. This cruise was also a wonderful experience - except for the entertainment, will get to that in a moment.

We stayed in a Neptune Suite and it was as has always been our experience, a very comfortable and well cared for cabin. This one seemed a tad bit smaller then those on other ships but non-the-less it was very comfortable and had plenty of room. The bed was in a word FANTASTIC. The Neptune Suite was very nice - but it is on the smallish side, particularly when compared to full suite lounges on Celebrity. For some reason the beverage options in the Neptune lounge always seemed lacking. The refrigerator was rarely full and at one point most of the alcoholic beverages were not available...other than that the lounge was nicely stocked but there was absolutely no variety to the snacks or light foods. Again HAL is falling behind. Also, unfortunately, the Afternoon Tea might as well be held in the Lido buffet. It is just run of the mill snacks and bagged tea served quickly and un-ceremoniously. A far cry from Afternoon Tea on Oceania and Cunard and a far cry from afternoon tea on HAL a couple of decades ago.

The Neptune Suites "Up-Scale" dining experience for lunch and dinner just was not anything special. The staff and for the time we are on board. We truly appreciate thier warm hospitality attention to detail and genuine efforts to make us feel comfortable, safe and well cared for even in the face of the hard work they have. The food was quite good but compared, once again, to Celebrity (Lumiere and even Blu) and Cunard The Grills the dining experience, ambiance, service level, food quality and experience on the older HAL ships - which tend to do the longer trips these days - is just not cutting it...too bad too. Until HAL decides to create an actual separate dining venue for full suite guests on these older smaller ships it will just not measure up.
