This cruise was terrible. The day we were to travel we received an email from Viking informing us that due to the fact that our cruise was late in the season some of the advertised Christmas Market excursions would not be available. In their email Viking did not provide the customer the choice of changing the date of their cruise of canceling the entire trip. They either knew this or should have known this before selling the cruise. Very sloppy and/or dishonest marketing on the part of Viking. We were supposed to embark the ship in Bamberg but instead we embarked in Wurzburg. The planned excursions in Bamberg were accomplished via coach, 1.5 hours each way. On the first night aboard the ship they ran out of certain brands of alcohol. When the bartender was asked why he stated that they were told not to restock since this was to be the Herja's last cruise of the season. They also ran out of Coke lite. While in Prague we began to hear of problems with the water level in the Moselle. As it turned out it was a huge problem. The ship never touched the Moselle. We docked in Koblenz and did the visits to Cochem, Berkastel and Trier via motor coach filled to the brim. Again, each motor coach ride was a minimum of 1.5 hours. I know that Viking cannot control the water level, but as we were told by local tour guides the water in the Moselle is historically high starting in November. Scheduling cruises that have a limited chance of completing their itinerary as planned is controlled by Viking. I brought the marketing issue to the attention of Viking. Seems that they don't care because I have noticed that their December 18th 2024 Christmas on the Main and Moselle starting in Prague still advertises excursions to Christmas markets that are known to be scheduled to be closed on the dates that the ship will be arriving at those locations. This was our 4th Viking cruise(3 river/1 ocean) and will be our last.
