We chose to go on a river cruise, thinking it would be as advertised—relaxing, immersive, and beautiful scenery along a river. We got a crowded bus tour with a view of the boat next to us 5 nights out of 8. Save your money. The Douro River tour is falsely advertised. It’s up early every day (before 7 am), get on a bus by 8:15 am, go to a location (no time for exploring), get a crowded tour by a tired local, get back on the bus, meet your ship AFTER the ship has cruised. We booked the premium cabin. Our balcony was unusable because we were 3 feet from the balcony of another ship tied up next to us. Staff were excellent, but the cruise director knew it was going to be a bus tour and didn’t care.

Port cities looked interesting, but we got no time to explore them because we were always on a crowded uncomfortable bus. Not booking with Viking ever again.

Cabin Review

Veranda Suite

Awful. View of the room on the boat next to us — 5 nights out of 8.
