Perception only few hundred on board when there were 2,000 passengers - smaller ship great for older people

Milford Sound - absolutely breathtaking. A must see.

We took the 14 day New Zealand cruise from Brisbane on 4th December 2023. Worrying about reviews written about the age and state of the ship we were pleasantly surprised. As it is older the corridors are wider, and we weren’t packed in like sardines. The carpet is just like that in the RSL clubs. We took Aloha mini suite. Whilst it not as wide as others the rounded balcony has the best views by far. It juts out and we had a forward and side view, it is also close to the middle elevators. Definitely one to book in the future. We didn't hear noise from the pool above.

We had eagerly been waiting since we booked the cruise, for the Chefs table. We booked it as soon as we came on board and chose 1 of the 4 nights on offer. We moved specialty dinners around this date but 3 days before, we were informed there would be no chefs dinner. I was bitterly disappointed. The information when we booked the cruise was that there were 4 formal evenings. This dropped down to 3. We turned up to "dress to impress" dinner in formal attire only to be told it had been changed to smart casual, down to 2! Even the waiters etc. turned up in dress uniform only to be told to go and change. We had both bought and brought evening wear for these 4 nights plus the chef's table.

As far as food goes the main dining room is okay buy the food doesn't come out hot. Horizon has a great variation with different meats of the day. You can always find a seat and enjoy meeting other people. For a special dinner you must go to Bayou restaurant. Best beef and reef, with half a lobster, and the steak is cooked beautifully.

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony

The cabin we chose was a mini suite Aloha. It is long and skinnier but the balcony is the best by far. It has a cleared plastic rounded edge so you can see Infront and to the side. It actually juts out. It was the best cabin we have had.

Port Reviews

Auckland

We hadn't travelled to New Zealand and this cruise was the one with everything we wanted to see, apart from Christchurch. We enjoyed all of the ports. The wine tour in Aukland was brilliant and the bus tours at other ports were great. The bus drivers are a wealth of knowledge.
