We love Holland America. This cruise was to use some cruise day credits we "earned" by having Covid on our HAL South American cruise in March2023. Embarkation and debarkation in Ft. Lauderdale went very well. Seems that staff there have greatly improved. Since there were to be 4 port days out of 7 trip days, we did not do HIA, knew we didn't want all the drinks or need the intenet. We choose this simple Caribbean trip to relax and revisit some islands. A fair amount of rain on the trip, but we still had a good time.

We took the HAL sponsored trip to the El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico (where it did rain in the Rain Forest). Great tour with a very good guide. In St. Thomas, we took the Turtle Cove Catamaran Sail and Snorkel trip. Nice weather and got to swim with turtles. On the return to Ft. Lauderdale, we hit rain and rough seas, so the Captain made the decision to skip Half Moon Cay. We did see it through the rain. We've been there several times before, so we were fine with the extra "sea day". The NS is large enough that the seas were just a gentle rocking most of the time. Food was very good. We had one dinner in the Tamarand - very good food and service. MDR staff and cabin staff were great too.

Only "downside" to our trip was our Cabin. There is a brightly lighted stairway from Deck 9 to Deck 10 that overhangs the veranda on the last few cabins on Deck 8, and that light was enough to cause us to need to close all the curtains at night. Not a big issue this trip because of the amount of rain, but I'd have been disappointed on a clear nights sail not to be able to see the stars. But since I had "guaranteed" cabin rate, I was OK. But also glad I've reserved a better cabin on our June 2024 Copenhagen cruise on the NS.

Cabin Review

Verandah Stateroom

Very nice cabin but too much light from outside stairway going from Deck 9 to Deck 10. Ruined night time view - too bright. And had to keep curtains closed to darken cabin at night. Cabin stewards were wonderful.
