What happens when a large group of African Americans travel on this ship? An atmosphere of Disdain, hostility, and obvious preferential treatment of others. I sailed in this ship with my family. It was huge gathering as we had not seen each other in years. You see groups of people on ships all the time. But for some reason when it was a large group of blacks people we were treated like scum. If we walked up to the bar, we were ignored. When they were “ready” to serve us, there was no “how may I help you?” Only a blank stare with their eyebrows lifted. Basically saying without saying “what do you want” I would order and they would simply stick their hands out for my card. No communication whatsoever. One night in formal dining I pointed out to my dinner mates the atmosphere of the dinner. Tour family took up about 30 tables. At each of those tables the waiters, we’re just simply going about their job. No smile, no communication, just placing plates in front of people. I told my dinner mates, to then look at the other diners not in our party. The waiters were smiling, chatting, and purely providing good customer service. What had we done to deserve this treatment? Even one brunch experience my family up about ten minutes late. The waiter ignored her, placed everyone’s food in her spot and refused to acknowledge her presence. I had to ask for a menu for her. He grabbed it and smugly handed to her and walked off. I had to ask for a new waiter, I was disgusted. Not to mention the time me and my sisters were screamed at on 2 occasions by other guest. All because they felt like there were to many of “us” yes “us” we were called racial names, and cursed out. We recorded one incident but we kept our cool we didn’t engage or yell back. We expected the on looking staff to defend us and Punish those offenders. But they didn’t. Oh and who could forget the windjammer. There was a lady who was the head over it during dining hours. Each dining she would come out and stare with piercing eyes at us and shake her head. Us “eating” in her windjammer annoyed her. Like I said it was a lot of us. They would try to get us out as quickly as they could. During dining time when we were present we would be bombarded with voice overs telling us “to leave so others could enjoy their dining experience and they needed space” I would look around and see 30 open tables and no on even coming into the windjammer. So what exactly were they speaking about ? . It was a miserable trip. I felt small insignificant and I felt my race more than ever. Housekeeping didn’t do animal shakes if the towels except maybe twice other patrons not with my party got it every night smh
