The Nieuw Statendam just came out of dry dock, so this was an opportunity to see what a newish ship was like as well as a transatlantic; the holiday time sailing was an added bonus. The dates allowed us to spend some time in Rome before departure, so we were able to do a land cruise. Returning to FLL helped minimize flight costs.

The food was overall very good; Club Orange dining room service was extremely slow and the room was cold.

Cabin stewards provided usual great service. The laundry service is excellent! Pinnacle Grill Maitre D' Tudor exemplifies the best HAL has to offer and makes dining memorable and special. Pinnacle Grill lunch is a special treat.

Cabin Review

Verandah Stateroom

The aft wake view cabin was fabulous; the only issue with it was one side of the cabin was noticeably hotter than the other side.

Port Reviews

Alicante

1st visit to this port - it was a pleasant surprise. The wine tasting was great.

Malaga

1st visit to this port. The Alhambra was amazing!

Seville

1st visit to this port - hopefully won't be the last. It may be the favorite of the cruise. Not a short drive, but the Alcazar was worth it; incredible architecture and beautiful countryside.

Ponta Delgada

1st time to this port - will definitely return. Always a gamble on if ships will dock - we were fortunate to get in. Did a tour of the island up to the mountain, pineapple

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Spent a few days in Rome before the cruise playing tourist. Was able to see the Colosseum and several other important sites. The Pantheon was incredible - it was the only one we did w/o a guide (did a self guided tour - highly recommend). Saw the Christmas

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Took a land/boat tour of FLL prior to flying out. The boat tour was nice - saw a lot of incredible mansions on the water all decked out in their holiday finest.
