This cruise was a bucket list vacation. We have many friends who have raved about the Christmas Markets in Europe. The only problem is our cruise/tour is that it began on Sunday November 26 and the first open Christmas Market was Thursday, November 30th. We missed the markets in Prague, Nuremberg, Bamberg and Wurzberg - that is 50% of what was promoted for our cruise. There were other mishaps too. We signed up in the morning for a Nativity Walk in Bamberg only to find that there were no nativities. Viking did not offer to reimburse us for the mistake - in fact the crew was fairly silent on all the issues, just saying for us to communicate with the corporate office.

Was it deception or incompetence? All I know is I recommend you do your homework to make sure the programs they are promoting are open. All the tour guides knew that the Christmas Markets open the Thursday before the first Sunday in Advent. I guess this escaped the Viking Team and we did not know enough to know we could not trust Viking. They notified us they would be closed two days before departure.

Even though the ship and crew were wonderful it did not overcome missing the Christmas Markets in Prague and Nuremberg, some of the best in Europe. Viking promotes themselves as number 1. Number 1 companies do not do misrepresent tours in this way.
