Beware Oceania. Middle East cruise that was drastically changed. Disappointing, expensive waste of time and money.

Nautica is a beautiful little ship. The crew were wonderful. Unfortunately this didn’t make up for a number of other issues relating to this supposedly upmarket company.

1. The itinerary change was so drastic it didn’t resemble what we booked in any way. Other ships still visited Egypt, Oman and Salalah and these ports were cancelled on our trip. The day we were meant to visit Athens was windy and a snap decision was made to bypass Athens, even though other ships started to dock. This meant an extra sea day in addition to the nine days straight we endured at the end of the cruise to reach Dubai. The ports that were substituted were unsuitable due to guests having been there many times before, the weather (cold and thunderstorms) and lots of things shut down.

2. The food was appalling. Even though it looked okay it was bland, dry, overcooked and had weird flavour pairings. The lobster was dry, chalky and stringy. Shrimp was hard and rubbery. The chicken was dry and tough. In 20 days there were only a couple of enjoyable entrees. Breakfast and lunch were “same, same”. Everything tasted the same, including the desserts. It is unbelievable that the day they have the finest cuisine at sea as the food was a huge disappointment.
