Sail Date: Nov 2023

Influenced by friends who sailed in May 2022, we booked the Christmas on the Rhine cruise with Viking for our honeymoon, November 2023. We’re in our early 40s and had an absolutely amazing time on this trip! The average and median age on the cruise was definitely 20-25 years our senior, but please don’t feel like you must be retired to enjoy a trip with Viking. While I think we were the only twosome in our age demographic, several adult children were traveling with their parents and grandparents, too. Viking accommodates all travel styles, but most of the guests aboard the ship are very active no matter their age. Walking 10,000 steps was a light day, and my husband and I averaged 7-8 miles each day. And if you need more steps, there’s always the track on the sun deck of the ship :)

At each stop you enjoy a short guided field trip/walking tour from a local, which immediately orients you with the city’s center before you’re off to explore on your own. My husband and I joined every included field trip and learned so much about the local art, architecture, and history of each city. We kept saying “we need to come back here,” because Viking really gives you a great taste of these historic places and hits the highlights, but there is still so much more to explore.

On the ship we frequently made use of the library, lounge, and coffee bar. It was a bit cold for the sun deck, but we managed to stay out there for about an hour during the gorgeous bit of the Rhine crawling with castles. There were 190 guests on our cruise, but we never had an issue finding a spot to sit in the lounge, and made many new friends there and at dinner. We plan to see many of our Viking Hlin friends again stateside.

Cabin Review

Aboard the ship our stateroom was comfortable and well appointed with lots of storage in the cabinets, closet, and under the bed. We were on the top/third floor in a French Balcony stateroom. For those of us coming from the US, no outlet converter/adapter is needed, however, if you come early or stay late you’ll need one for your hotel room. Our room attendant was so efficient, often turning over our room before lunch in case we needed to pop by for a rest or extra layers. They also turned down our room every night, ensuring our laundry and next day’s agenda was ready for us after dinner. Oh, also, the bathrooms have heated floors. What. A. Luxury! My feet were so cozy especially with the chilly outside temps.
