This September we took the 15 night In-Depth Adriatic & Aegean cruise Oceania cruise from Valletta Malta to Istanbul. We had the standard oceanview cabin on the Nautica. The cabin was very nice and the bed was absolutely heavenly. There was some noise due to being right across from the door the crew used to get to their own cabins but no noise from above or either side. We had plenty of storage space for our clothes and enjoyed the robes and Bvlgari toiletries provided. We brought 4 bottles of wine (a maximum of 6 bottles were allowed for no fee). There is a corkage fee if the wine is brought to the restaurants.

We booked this tour due to the itinerary that was very interesting to us. We saw Malta, 3 ports in Italy, Albania, 2 ports in Croatia, Santorini and Athens and finished with 3 ports in Turkey. We booked 4 Oceania tours and the remaining tours we booked on our own. The Oceania standard tours all had about 40 people with transportation provided on a large comfortable bus. I was not looking forward to such large group tours as we tend to book private or small group (max 10) tours. However we were pleasantly surprised. From Crotone Italy, we took the Flavors of Santa Severina group tour where we traveled to a hilltop town and then went to an agriturismo where we had a fabulous buffet lunch with local foods prepared by a talented chef and good local wine. In Ancona Italy we took the Oceania Frasassi Caves and Ancona tour. The bus trip to the caves was very pleasant and the caves themselves were breathtaking. We took the Oceania Dubrovnik & the Croatian Riviera tour that included a short stop in picturesque Cavtat, a stop in the lush Konavle Valley with a demonstration of an old water powered mill and a light snack of traditional Croatian specialties, and a drive back to old town Dubrovnik with a walking tour. The walking tour in Dubrovnik was not to our liking mainly due to the crowds and our tour group size. We didn’t go on the 4th tour to Pergamum as it was after Ephesus where we had a fabulous and exhausting private tour and this tour was very early in the morning and we just did not want to get up that early. Overall we were happy with the large group Oceania tours that we took.

We did have windy weather with 12 foot high waves one night and slightly smaller waves another night. While we did hear occasional thuds and felt small shutters as the bow hit large waves and the ship was slightly rocking, we did not get sick and thought the ship handled the strong winds very well. We were sort of rocked to sleep in the fabulous comfortable bed. Because of the winds, we did not anchor at Kotor Montenegro and spent that day at sea, so we had 2 days at sea on this cruise, one that was scheduled and one that was not.
