Travelled with my parents to see some South Pacific islands. Unfortunately, a cyclone was forming near Fiji so after 1 day at Suva we spent the following two days at sea travelling very slowly towards New Caledonia where we spent an extra port day. Whereas we should have had two more days at Fiji.
The one day at Mystery island on Vanuatu had a lovely beach and trpoical feel. Weather meant the tender transfer was slow and rough so we had to collect a ticket and wait in queue to transfer and finally got there at 2pm! Would have liked more than a few hours.
Weather is not the fault of the cruise line, but what could have been much better was the day time entertainment and activities while at sea. The majority of these are an awful joke. Imagine day time shopping television informercials and game shows turned into a cruise but done poorly. Approx half of the "activities" listed each day are just the onboard shops or health scams. eg "Fashion event from 2-3pm" is just the clothing shop. Count the jewels in a watch at the watch shop. Footprint analaysis followed by $900 Chinese herbal therapy marketing tactics. Other activities were "meet in the lobby and bet on which elevator door opens next". Most of the sports "activities" are unhosted, ie go play table tennis from 12-1pm and hope someone else turns up. Trivia sessions are like a quiet exam hall where you guess the noun left out of wikipedia sentences read out by a disinterested staffer and write it down on a piece of paper you check yourself. You could try dancing classes, except these are done in the middle of the main shopping mall, where you become the entertainment for everyone else on three levels while they sit and watch. Kind of like a Westfielf shopping centre where the retiree groups go after lunch to drink coffee in the foodcourt on a weekday.
