It would be easy for someone like me who has never cruised on either the old, or the recently renewed Crystal Symphony, to feel like they've crashed a stranger's floating family reunion picnic and wolfed down the barbeque and beer before they notice I’m there. Eavesdrop during a crowded lunch and you'll learn that the majority of both the passengers and crew have sailed together on this same ship before - in one case, 65 times before! (What do they do with their free time?) Now I had to find out why! First, the ship.

The cruise ship surgeons at Trieste Italy's renowned Fincantieri shipyard have taken the 1995-built Crystal Symphony and preformed the Beverly Hills plastic surgeon-equivalent of a nautical reincarnation. Not just some paint and new chairs here and there, but a complete face lift with nautical-themed implants and a sea going tummy tuck. Crystal is now a shiny new lady, but she has kept her old, classic values. That’s why both passengers and crew keep coming back for more.

So much of this ship has been restored or reconditioned that you must look closely to find her original bones. In fact, I learned that every cabin on the ship has been redesigned and/or enlarged in some way.
