I flew from Houston to London and arrived the day before the cruise. I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Heathrow and would highly recommend it. This was my first time on P&O Cruises. It mainly caters to British cruisers and many of the passengers I met have only cruised P&O. Their website states that their Elegant Nights are very formal. Many of the men wore tuxes, but some wore a jacket and tie. A few women wore formal gowns, but some only wore a nice dress or pants and a sparkly top. This is an older ship and is scheduled for a refurbishment next year. We were lucky and saw the Northern Lights on 3 nights, which made this cruise worthwhile. This ship is adults only and most passengers were 60 and older, some in their 90's. On the website they imply that the ship is in Tromso and Narvik for 2 nights each, but in those ports you leave at 0100 on the second day. IMO, they should have listed those days as sea days because really, what can you do from midnight till 0100? Embarkation was smooth and easy. I had a balcony cabin and did use it, even though it was cold outside. The cabin was good size. For me, the bed was too hard. The bathroom had a tub. There was plenty of closet space - 20 hangers, any plenty of shelves. They supplied body wash and shampoo but no lotion or hair conditioner. In the bathroom there was an outlet for a shaver only. In the cabin there was only one British outlet and one Continental outlet. My cabin had 3 US outlets, which was a surprise. Other cruisers I spoke with only had the British and Continental outlets. No USB ports. The walls are magnetic but the door is not.
The crew were very hard working and pleasant. There is no tipping.
The cruise director kept a very low profile.
