We were beguiled by Riviera's marketing which extolled luxury and a 5 star experience. Our expectations were very high and we expected to be wowed by high quality, haut cuisine and exceptional food experiences. We expected luxury cabins with high quality toiletries, bathrobes and towels and linens. We expected service which put the customer at the heart of the concept. In short, after paying £500 per person per day we expected an experience which we would remember as the most amazing, sumptuous holiday of a lifetime.
Well, we will remember this holiday and Riviera as a company but not for the reasons we hoped for. Unbelievably awful just doesn't begin to cover it. There was not one area of experience which we could judge better than very very poor.
Cabins were no better than budget hotel grades. Towels, linen and bathrobes were of poor quality and well worn. Bathrobes were removed from cabins before the end of our holiday so that they could be laundered for the next set of guests. Only one pillow per person and no spare pillows within the wardrobes was substandard and not reflective of the luxury accommodation we expected.
In addition to the comments about the cabins above and the fact that we paid a huge premium for this facility, we were unable to sit on them due to the constant stench of cooking which was always there, despite the hour of day. Cleaning and replenishment of cabin refreshments was poor.
