Budapest to Amsterdam but we had to switch to the Opal in Nuremberg from the Emerald Sky due to low water. This was the first time the Scenic company had made such a switch upgrading the cruise. The Opal is a higher end ship compared to the Emerald Sky. More luxurious with larger rooms, a higher number of crew and different dining options. Our cruise director Dawn worked hard to arrange and coordinate this switch and it went fairly smoothly despite changing lines and t a slightly smaller ship.

Once we packed up on the Sky the crew moved our luggage to the Opal we embarked on buses for a 75 minute ride to the Opal.

Dawn and Tine(Tina the activities director) moved with us to continue the voyage. We were assigned a very similar room but on the Opal it was bigger with a few more perks. The ship is configured slightly differently than the Sky with fewer rooms, a pool on the sun deck instead of at the stern. With the switch we we given some of the perks of Scenic including free drinks, slightly better food, free mini bar, butler and an allowance for laundry.

Cabin Review

Large and well appointed, location was perfect on 3rd deck close to lounge and reception

Bathroom was very roomy

Storage was shelving in sliding wardrobes. Emeralds drawer configuration is better. Included a free mini bar, safe, adjustable bed and butler service. The balcony used the Scenic/Emerald sliding window which was excellent on cool days when sailing

Port Reviews

Lovely old village on the Rhine. Cable car to the top of the hill to overlook the valley. Nice shops and restaurants in town and the Musicbox museum is worth the trip
