This was our 4th river cruise with Viking, 6th with them overall. We are in our late 60s and were traveling with my 92 year old father and his wife. Our itinerary was disrupted slightly the last couple of days of the cruise due to high river levels, impassible bridges, and flooding in Passau. Viking handled everything perfectly, arranging buses to pick us up at two unscheduled stops along the river to take us on our tours to Passau and Regensburg. My father walks very slowly and would have been unable to keep up with the regular walking tours. Viking arranged “leisure tours” for us and a number of other guests at each stop that went at a slower pace and minimized the amount of walking we had to do. The Gullveig lived up to Viking’s stellar reputation for outstanding service, food, and cleanliness. The Romantic Danube was a fabulous cruise. One final note. We requested a wheelchair at the guest services desk on the Gullveig for my father to have at the airport in Munich before our flight home. When we arrived at the airport, we were met by a Viking rep with a wheelchair who guided us to check our luggage, and stayed with us until a wheelchair attendant arrived to take my father through security. Service doesn’t get any better than that!

Cabin Review

Cabins on riverboats are relatively small by design compared to a cruise ship. However, Viking’s cabins are well designed, very functional, have plenty of storage, and are exceptionally clean. The bathroom has a very nice sized shower.
