We chose this particular cruise because of the itinerary - the line was secondary but intriguing as we had never sailed on Silversea before.

This was our first time cruising with the Silversea cruise line. It is the luxury side of the Royal Caribbean family of cruise lines. Prior to this we had one other encounter with another luxury cruise line - Regent - and for the most part Silversea was comparable. Our suite was large enough that we were not falling over each other to move around in it, the bed was a queen size and comfortable but, like a few others, had a central ridge that slanted off on the sides.

One of the perks were the bath amenities - Bvlgari shower wash, shampoo and conditioner as well as body lotion. That is the creme-de-la-creme of those items; the towels were bath sheets, the largest we have ever had on a cruise, even larger that Regent's.

Port Reviews

Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island)

PEI was fun - had a good tour guide (they make or break excursions) and saw a couple of historic lighthouses. One of the better excursions we had.

Halifax

This was another enjoyable excursion - we went to an old Highlander fortress and learned about how the Scottish regiment that was billeted there lived and drilled as well as why they did so under British rule.

Portland (Maine)

This excursion we do not recommend for anyone - it was the Kennebunkport one. All we did was spend 3/4 of the time on the bus listening to our guide say " Here is this, there is that".

Saguenay Fjord

I think that this was the most liked excursion of them all albeit the most requiring the most effort. It was supposed to be >2 miles in length but we walked over 3.5 on a path that was an ankle breaker filled with gnarly tree roots that were sometimes 3" or so high as well as rocks large, small and boulder size. It had a beautiful river filled with rapids as well as a medium size waterfall - great photo ops all around.
