We have travelled extensively throughout the US and Europe, but never on a cruise. The reason we never did a cruise is that we were not comfortable with a huge cast of thousands on a gigantic ship. So a river cruise was the perfect introduction.

I have spend a lost of time with companies working on improving customer experience. Whatever the secret ingredient is that Viking has in hiring people, they should bottle it and sell it. I can't remember another instance in which a staff was so committed to creating an engaging and meaningful experience. EVERYONE was just terrific. (Just in case in means anything in getting her a raise, Joanna in the restaurant was beyond the overall high degree of excellence - so fun, competent, and kind.)

The quality of the guides on the various excursions was just amazing. Very entertaining and knowledgeable people. We only did one extra tour - the Colmar Pocket/Audie Murphy excursion with Malcolm (5 stars) - so all of these great people were in the "base" price.

Cabin Review

Not sure what our level was - we were on the "Swan" level - just at the water line. It was a very well-constructed space - those Norwegians thought of everything. On our next cruise, we will stay with this level and spend any extra on excursions.
