We were asked by one of our relatives who had been on a Viking river cruise 5 years earlier if we would like to join them on the Beautiful Danube cruise this year. We decided to join them. I must say that from the time we landed in Budapest until the time we let Munich for Chicago, the service we received was spectacular. They met our plane in Budapest and got us to our hotel. They had a service desk at the hotel to provide service there and when it was time to embark they led the way. Once on the boat again the service was 1st class. Everyone on the staff from the Captain to the crew that attended to our room were friendly, attentive and made you feel at home. Each of the meals was what you expect from a 5 star hotel. We could always found too many things on the menu that we would have like to try. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner were always a dining experience. Before dinner we would have cocktails in the lounge. After diner there was various entertainment in the lounge as well. At each port, we opted for the tour provided. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. When it was time to disembark and return home, Viking provided transportation back to the airport and guided us through the customs process. Overall I think it was an great vacation and would recommend it to anyone wanting to do a river cruise.

The only item was not completely satisficed with was that fact that while we were traveling with our relatives from Chicago, they booked us on separate flight from Munich to Chicago. To get on the same flight we had to pay an addition fee to Viking Air to get on the same flights back to Chicago. We had both booked the travel with the same Viking Representative so I would have thought that they would have realized this and booked on the same flight through out our journey.

Cabin Review

The cabin was clean, comfortable and well appointed. There was plenty of room for all of our clothes in the closet as well as the dresser. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small as expected but adequate. I loved the veranda were we could sit and enjoy the scenery as we traveled down the Danube.
