Sail Date: Aug 2023

People choose a cruise based on the itinerary and based on ship accommodations. In both cases, Princess let us down. We signed up for a 7 day Alaskan cruise which was supposed to have 4 stops. One was in Victoria Canada, the day before we disembarked. We knew it was an evening stop 7-11pm. There were a few excursions worth doing. But two months before our sail date we were told they wouldn't dock in Victoria until 9 and there really wasn't any reason to get off the ship that late, especially since we had to get up and be ready to disembark fairly early. So technically it was a 4th stop, but it was pretty worthless. Some people got off, and maybe rode around to see the city buildings lit up at night. But that didnt seem worth the effort that late.

The ship accommodations also were not what we were sold. The website says the ship has a nightclub called Club 6. I was really looking forward to dancing a few evenings, and bought a new dress even. Club 6 does not exist. There is a plaque on the wall where it used to be. And yet the website still says its there. There is also no Crab Shack. Doesn't exist. Also listed on the website. These are two really important things that impacted our decision to choose that trip.

Then the fees changed, two weeks before our sail date. They said that Alfredo's would now have a $14.99 per person charge for eating there. It is not a specialty restaurant. The website does now indicate that charges apply. People take a cruise expecting the food to be free, except for a couple of specialty places. That is getting more limited it seems. The dining room is free and so is the buffet, and a couple of quick eateries by the pool (Trident Grill, a pizza place and a soft serve ice cream place).

Cabin Review

Our cabin was great. We had a balcony, which is a must for an Alaskan cruise. Our room steward took very good care of us.
