We had an absolutely amazing, enriching and unforgettable time on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Everything was perfect; the staff with their caring attitude and always smiling faces- Riben, our cabin steward was wonderful! Megan & Meso at Photography, all the cleaners (everything was spotless, which is incredible given that 2000 passengers were onboard!) and Lido staff - how they manage to keep on smiling when faced with many dour and just rude passengers is astonishing?!! Chante at the Store was also great.) - and the unforgettable cuisine stand out. The food (especially buffets at the Lido) was incredible - loved the seafood and Afternoon Tea on ship days too - such a lovely treat! 'was great to see the Chief Chef in the Lido and all the continuous cleaning on the ship. Terrible that passengers must be reminder to wash hands after a washroom visit, but I am sure reminders helped! Gage, cruise director, also deserves a shout-out for his always chirpy and fun demeanour. We also liked hearing the captain's voice in the am and during the day. 'loved-loved the liqueur and pea soup & rangers on Glazier ship day. Entertainment was spot-on (dancers and Four Voices were superb), excursions and tendering off the ship were great fun. Too many absolutely unforgettable experiences to mention - but, we have already booked a 2024 14-days cruise to Alaska. As global travellers, HAL is the only way to cruise as it offers great cuisine, superb service, spot-on entertainment and relaxation for an intrepid, sophisticated traveller. Thanks so very much for a special & awesome cruise!! Kudos to the Nieuw Amsterdam's staff!
I am sure some of my fellow passengers will be complaining about disembarkation in Juneau - 'was a bit of a delay -, but to my mind that is part of being on a cruise. I can't say enough about the staff's caring and friendly attitude (the "welcome home" when embarking again after an excursion was heartwarming and much appreciated!), always ready to serve passengers with big smiles, how spot-less everything was and the fresh, out-of-this world cuisine at the Lido, Tamarind and Pinnacle (the baked Alaska dessert was the best I have ever tasted, even compared with Michelin restaurants!!).
The ticketing system used to streamline disembarkation in Vancouver is a great idea! :)
