This was my very first cruise and our first travel since Covid canceled earlier post retirement plans. My wife and I had been intrigued by Viking from watching their ads on PBS Masterpiece. Friends of ours had also strongly recommended Viking so we had high expectations. Those expectations were met and exceeded. The ship, the staff, the food, our room and the excursions were first class in every respect. Every employee of Viking we interacted with from the planning stage to being delivered to the airport for our return flight was knowledgeable and professional. Each one seem personally concerned with giving us the best experience possible. And they did!
We did the pre-cruise extension to Norway and it was money well spent. One of the attractions of the extension was a scenic train ride from Oslo to Bergen. Unfortunately it was canceled due to landslides along the route from heavy rain earlier in August. Rather than rail, we had to make the journey by bus. It was still very scenic but missing the train ride was a disappointment but we realize weather is beyond Viking's control. It was then a very pleasant surprise to receive an email from Viking shortly after we returned home advising us we each had a $500 credit with Viking because of the canceled train trip. That was a very classy, if unnecessary, thing to do and increased our desire to travel with Viking again. We will certainly be recommending Viking to all of our friends and acquaintances and are looking forward to our next trip.
