My wife and I have always wanted to go on a river cruise after about 20 ocean cruises. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary so took the plunge! The Rhine River is fantastic and we high recommend this itinerary, starting in the Amazon city of Amsterdam and finishing in Switzerland! We found that the level of service and cuisine was comparable to our ocean cruises, usually on Royal Caribbean, and the included excursions were walking tours that were not spectacular. We enjoyed the overall experience but didn’t think the offering justified they rather high price. The pre and post cruise extensions were way too expensive for what you get. They upgraded excursions are also very pricey but appear to be much more of what you would expect from the Viking reputation for interesting and high end experiences. Too often you had to forgo the included excursions to pay extra for the better option. Overall, we felt this was not a premium over ocean cruising at 3-4 times the cost.

Veranda Stateroom

We loved the Veranda stateroom on the middle deck—it was worth paying extra compared to the French balcony rooms on the same level, 205 sq feet compared to 135.
