Cabin: Balcony

We chose this itinerary as we wanted to do London (5 days prior) and the British isles. We had a standard balcony. It worked for us but I think I prefer the deluxe balcony with a bit more room. Our room steward, Romy, was excellent. The September weather, although pleasantly cool, didn’t lend itself to sitting out on a balcony nor sunbathing. No big deal. We enjoyed the ports especially Cork, Bruges and Normandy (Le Harve). We thought the food in the MDR was very good. Main dining room staff was excellent. They will accommodate most requests. Entertainment was good. We saw 3 production shows, 1 comedian and, when in port in Cork, terrific Irish step dancers. We did try bingo once and Deal or No Deal. Not really our thing. We do prefer the Princess Plus package. My only comment is they upped the price after booking ($10/pp/day) and justified it by throwing in some ridiculous other benefits - like 2 MONSTER sundaes per person per day! It felt like a bait and switch although you could keep the Plus with the lower benefits. Due to weather, unfortunately we had to skip Guernsey. We were warned by the captain that it would be rough with huge waves. For the first time - I felt a bit queasy. I took Dramamine and was ok. For Excursions, we used Princess, Shore and Project Expeditions. Project Expeditions was terrible. The excursion was in Greenock. Use another vendor. Embarkation and disembarkation were a breeze. This cruise attracted an older group of guests and many with mobility issues.

Cabin Review

aft and close to the laundromat which is what I wanted. It is a standard balcony. Not sure you need a balcony on this itinerary. Our room steward was wonderful.

Port Reviews

A lot of history.

Cobh (Cork)

Loved it. Beautiful tour of cork and surrounding villages.

Greenock (Glasgow)

Do not use Project Expedition. Terrible tour of cows, Stirling Castle ( not that large and full of reproductions + a separate admission) and Loch Lomond which is a large “lake” with bungee jumping, plastic dinosaurs, kiddie rides and a department store. We were running late so the tour guide/driver stopped at the equivalent of a Cracker Barrel for lunch. Wasted day.

Invergordon (Inverness)

Did not see Nessie. Unfortunately the mic on our tour bus wasn’t working so there was no commentary along the way.

We loved Bruges. Beautiful, historic city.

We did the Normandy excursion. It was wonderful!
