Sail Date: Sep 2023

We hadn’t cruised for some years due to COVID and illness and decided to take this no-fly itinerary on ship we last cruised on in 2015 after a number of previous Celebrity cruises.

Our overall impression was that the ship was much more crowded than on past cruises and this was most evident in the Ocean View Cafe and the sun decks where finding a sun bed proved an almost impossible task, despite notices placed on the beds requesting considerate use.

We also found the main dining room menu repetitive, although we appreciate that it had been geared to the the demographic of guests-90% plus British. However, this doesn’t really justify Yorkshire Pudding and cauliflower cheese being the ever-present side dishes. Green vegetables were requested and provided via our ever-attentive servers, After 7 days with the salmon as only fish offered ( apart from Drum Fish which we couldn’t get an accurate description of) a discussion with the Maitre D did result in more fish appearing on subsequent days. A variety of fish was available in the speciality restaurants which did rather contradict the difficulty of supply explanation. We felt disappointed that some dishes had to be returned due to the food being dry or cold although they were replaced without a problem.

Cabin Review

Closet space was limited for two people and the overhead lockers difficult to access.

The large balcony with sun bed and chairs was very welcome. Our Stateroom attendant Xavier was pleasant and helpful at all times.

Port Reviews

La Spezia (Cinque Terre)

This was an enjoyable port to visit. Lovely walk along the promenade took you into the charming town.

We have visited Malaga before and enjoyed wondering around the town.

Things were disorganised when disembarking. We were given incorrect directions to find the little tourist train. If you wanted to take the hop on hop off bus, you had to walk and find where the tickets were sold and go back to the bus. It was a very hot day so we just walked into the old port and had a coffee!

We took the hop on hop off bus in Caligiari to see a bit of the surrounding area.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

We didn’t do an excursion as we have stayed in Rome and done other excursions in previous cruises. We wandered into the old part of the city. It was extremely crowded getting away from the ship as it was a Friday and an embarkation/disembarking from other ships.

The ship docks in Cadiz, a delightful city. We loved wandering around the narrow, shaded streets leading off from the main square. Once again we got a hop on hop off bus which gave us a lovely view of the surrounding area. We got off in the Playa Victoria beach area and had lunch. Definitely somewhere we would want to return to.
