Our reason to cruise Celebrity was that we have previously had a good experience with Celebrity and the ports were fun places.
Unfortunately, lots of disappointment. We hold Elite status in Celebrity and Diamond Plus on RCCL, with about 30 cruises overall. Let’s start with the app…. It did not work for the safety briefing! Cut backs in bar staff is very poor business decision. We waited most nights for 10-15 minutes to get the attention of bartender. Drinks (whiskey sour, traditional martini, Manhattan) were tiny. The largest venue Sky Lounge was closed for several nights for an art auction. Main dining menu was boring, uninteresting and uninspiring. We gave up and ate in the buffet 4 of 8 nights. Reciprocity for benefits between Celebrity and RCCL was most disappointing. Not nearly enough pool space. Equinox is clean but needs a refurb.
Good points: room attendant, wait staff, musicians, pool staff - all were great! Internet connection was reasonably fast. Celebrity mostly solved the issue with saved deck chairs. The attendants merely picked up towels off of chairs all day every day. Check in was easy and flawless. Good food and good variety in the buffet Oceanview. Not many children, but good facilities for small kids and “day care”. Gymnasium was large and well equipped.
The Balcony obstructed view was decent but not somewhere you’d want to spend any time. We booked an X- GTY balcony stateroom. I would never book a guaranteed room (they pick your room) again. The Cabin attendant kept the cabin looking as nice and clean as possible. As on smaller ships, there was not much storage space. There were 4 small drawers and over the bed shelves that weren’t very accessible for short guests. There were plenty of hangers, so we hung up all of the clothes that we could.
