BIGGER is not always BETTER!!

Sail Date: July 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral (Orlando)
We are experienced cruiser's as this was our 4th. We have experienced Disney, Royal Carribean and this was our second Carnival cruise. Compared to our experience on Carnival Legend, this was a dissapointment as we had a great time on the Legend. Carnival Dream's decor was very stark without a lot of detailed luxury as we have found on other ships.

As other reviewers have detailed, the embarkation process was seemless and the counter staff in the terminal were very pleasant to deal with and sent you off ready to cruise.

We got into our room right at 1:30pm and received our luggage piece meal but all in tact with the exception of a couple of bottles of wine and booze were confiscated. Can't complain too much about that as they delivered everything back to us on the last night. A word of not that in each port you are permitted to bring on a six pack of beer or 1 bottle of wine (sealed) so we did that for the local flavors.

We had to move our table after the More first night of dining as we had requested to be at our own table yet they seated us with this miserable family of 5 and had we continued this would have just ruined our trip.

The entertainment for a ship this big was average at best. They really should focus on better bands and shows for as much as they charge for this cruise.

Don't get me family knows how to have fun so we thoroughly enjoyed our trip but will chose a much smaller ship next time so we don't feel that we are constantly waiting in lines and being herded.

Note to self...smaller ship next time. Less

Cabin review: 8E Balcony

These were the tightest quarters we had. The sofa was not a pullout but just a made up bed the entire time so we could not sit on it. Not that we spent much time in the cabin. Wish we had sliding glass door to balcony versus that heavy door which slammed shut.

Port and Shore Excursions

We were supposed to be in Roatan for the 2nd port but the captain switched it due to weather. Thank you captain! Good call. We booked an excursion with Ecological Tours for Gallows Reef snorkeling and Bannister Island beach break. All in all OK as communication was good and they were right there at the dock to meet us. Snorkeling was so so due to the current being a bit strong that day but the beach break...WAY TOO expensive for a hamburger and chip $8 us dollars. Drinks were expensive too so be prepared to spend some cash. They did take credit cards though.

Used to be my favorite port but not any more.

Been here before and we did not plan an excursion but took advantage of Tequila Beach which offered all you can drink and all the chips, salsa and quesadillas you could eat for $25 us per person. Nice and clean with tiki bar, pool table and right on the beach. Staff was very attentive and we also got to use the kayaks. The also had wave runners for extra cost. Good value here.

We also took advantage of the very nice pool they have right in the port. Good experience in Costa Maya.

Loved Cozumel! We found the local spots to hang out. We took a cab to the farthest point of downtown. Shopped a bit and then ate at La Choza. Very good fajitas and their chips and salsa dips were some of the best. This also started our margarita run. Our goal was to make several stops while actually walking all the way back to the ship. We stumbled (literally) on No Name Cigar Bar and were pleasantly surprised when the owner took us to an oasis in the back. Beautiful pool right on the beach with swim up pool bar. That's where we hung out most of the day along with some of the ship's crew. Walking back we took picture of dolphins doing tricks at another bar but kept walking. Two more margarita stops and we barely made it back to the ship. GREAT time in Cozumel.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! What a beautiful island. We booked our excursion through Island Marketing. We have used them before and never have had an issue. Got a great deal for booking online for the zip line and beach break. WOW Experience is all that can describe this. Our young guide, 12 years old, Chauky was a real treat and so proud and knowledgeable of his home. He helped his driver friend that did not speak English. The process was seamless, the zip line guides had safety in mind first and then nothing but fun. OMG i never imagined doing something this fun. We met anouther family who had done this same excursion once before. We know we had chosen the right excursion. The beach break was paradise and food and drink extremely reasonable compared to Belize.

Do yourself a favor and make sure you find time to walk out of the port to the right and experience the local culture and how they live. You will really appreciate where you are.

Will do Roatan again!!!
