We did our 1st Marella cruise around the Canaries in Feb which was ok so decided to try them again on a 14 night cruise around the eastern USA. Flights to and from Glasgow were pretty good, although my wife’s entertainment screen never worked on way out though they did issue a £30 refund. A few good films but music channels were dire, it was hard to find any good albums to listen to. Food on flight was good though as was the general organisation by Tui with regard to transfers and boarding the ship.

Discovery was ok considering its age, though very limited places to drink if you just wanted a relaxed and quiet evening as there was often pretty poor and very loud singers playing songs that bore little connection to the demographics of the guests.

The food was mediocre, with only about 4 nights where I could describe the food as anywhere near good. The selection in the island’s cafeteria was very poor. The main Gallery restaurant food was lacking in choice, often not hot and was invariably bland. We had a lovely meal in the Glass house one evening, went back a Week or so later and ordered almost the same meals which were practically inedible. The head waiter did his best to put things right and we even spoke directly with the chef but the inconsistency was very disappointing. Distinct lack of premium wines and sometimes not available in all bars. They were serving wine in plastic water tumblers towards the end of the cruise. Read more
