About us: We are a married couple in our late 50's early 60's. We have experienced over 20+ ocean cruises, and this was our first post Covid. Our experiences have been with Princess, Celebrity, RCCL, NCL and Carnival. We travel for the destinations and the ease of which cruising allows. I will cover the pre cruise travel, ship, ports, excursions and food.

Pre Cruise: We booked our own air- Aer Lingus- had one stop in Dublin then on to Heathrow. The flights were fine-although a bit of surprise that we were charged for coffee on the leg from Dublin to Heathrow. We packed carry on and personal item only (a first for us) and will never do it differently. Hint- if doing carry on pay attention to the weight of your bag, we did have to shuffle a few things to make it work at check in. If anyone wants hints on how to the carry on just let me know and i can give you, our strategy. From Heathrow had blackberry car service take us to Southampton. I did research the other methods of transport, but knew we would be weary from the flight and opted for a car service, (no regrets). Our pre-cruise hotel stay was at Southampton Hotel and Spa, this is not a budget hotel but well worth the price. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and amenities. We checked in with concierge at the hotel and booked a morning shuttle to the port. The port was crazy busy and the line was out of the terminal. Here is the bonus- if you aren't checking in bags you can walk right in- which we did. Being platinum, we went to the platinum line and were on the ship in less than 10 min. We did bring out medallions with us from the US. Next a quick check in with our muster station and a tour of the ship.

I am not going to go into details about the lay out of the decks or the venues- there are a ton of UTUBE videos that give you those details. That being said the ship is beautiful and in good shape. The one big major downside is lack of chairs- everywhere - there is literally nowhere to sit at busy times of the day. This is a cool weather destination. We had embarkation day lunch in the dining room- this is a gem- we enjoyed all the lunch food and with fantastic service and no hustle in bustle. We had a standard balcony on this trip and the balcony is very small but functional. The bed was comfortable, and the room service attendant was very good. We enjoyed our first evening meal in the crown grill. The bar service in the lounge outside the crown grill was extremely slow. There just was not enough staff to accommodate the lounge, the restaurant and people at the bar. Food in the crown grill was very good. Service in our opinion while good has changed. Since you are not signing any bill or tip at the end we weren't sure - do you just get up and leave? do you say goodbye- again not complaining but there isn't that formal end of the meal thanks for coming or enjoy your evening. I thought Vines would be a place we frequented but was somewhat disappointed, no real menu and very lackluster wine list. This was the cruise before the change over so that could have had an impact. We had the plus package pre- December and did not upgrade it. When i wanted a more expensive wine i ordered it and paid the upcharge. It still came out less than an upgrade. Loved Take 5 music and vibe. We went to the platinum elite lounge each night pre dinner and enjoyed the apps and vibe. Senior officers always circulated and were interested in what we had to say. Ceilo dining room- we attempted to speak to the dining manager to secure the same table each night they said no we don't do that anymore. That being said we were seated when we arrived each night at 6:30 so just not the same table. The food was mostly good to very good and the I found the pasta dishes excellent. We also attended the Wine Makers dinner which you reserve by calling the dine line when you board. There is a list and then you receive an invitation. IT was 45 dollars and 3-4 course with wine. It was excellent! We really don't do the buffet, a couple of time on port days for a lite bite. We do try to avoid crowds when possible.
