Things went bad before we even left the dock. A passenger had a massive heart attack just before ship was to leave, this took hours to be fully investigated, man was removed from ship eventually, and unfortunately later died. Also heard that a teen had tried vaping and had an allergic reaction at the same time and presume was also removed. Thus ship left at 11pm and we were told we would miss Noumea ( which is no great loss, except for first time cruisers ), thus we went straight to Lithou, then Port Vila and back to Brisbane. Also apparently a lady who was drunk ( and husband) fell down the stairs in main area and had to be taken off in Port Vila to be flown to Brisbane. Food - So as usual the food in the Pantry was cold , but not as bad as last time, but selection is very small, even breakfast had either prunes or apricots every day, plus some mixed fruit that had been striped of pineapple. Also only basic yogurt not flavored and little selection of cereals. There was fried eggs ( but were always cold) and bacon. Best day for Pantry was last day at sea when prawns and oysters were available and good desserts ( only time desserts were any good). Waterfront and Angelos Restaurants were fine, but Dragon Lady was a bit of a let down. Entertainment - Had seen the shows Seven and Musicology many times before, but they were good and worth seeing again, first night show was new but a bit hard to follow as a mix of screen Earth Watch material and unsure of what the whole thing was about. Comedian was good, also MA+ comedians. Female solo singer was good. Also noted Blanc D Blanc show had increased in price from $20 to $30, so gave it a miss. Trivia now becoming a let down as most groups have 10 plus people in them and google answers, also you need to get 21 out of 20 to win. Entertainment team - The cruise director a bit of a let down . Most of the team below were good, Hannah is the stand out best person for the job as is friendly and down to earth. Best value on cruise is the entertainment package at $25 a day, coffee's, soft drinks, mocktails, water bottles, etc. Need to pre book and pay for it, cannot get once on board. Ship - Encounter Hotel always freezing cold, rest of the ship OK. Room - Need new mattresses, they were both terrible completely worn out with big dips in middle. Problem going on ship at this time of year, water cold, in pool and at islands. We were unbelievably unluck with the weather, not rain, but the wind. We went into the wind on way to Vila and into the wind on way back to Brisbane. So we were travelling at about 30km/hour ( or 21 knots ) and the headwind was about 30km/hour, so effectively the wind on deck was 60km/h and on ship info channel showed up to 81km/h that I noted. Otherwise the swell was quiet most of the time, maybe 2 meter. Shops - Alcohol prices at duty free were very good, almost as good as Port Vila, so I just purchased on board. I checked prices in Vila and had decreased since my last visit in May, some prices were better than ship and some about same. Pandora jewellery shop prices were Ok and a few specials on cheaper items were quite good. Stayed away from perfume and expensive watches etc as would be too hard to get warranty. Overall, we had a good time ( went with another couple ), and you get what you pay for is about the best way to think of a P&O cruise.
A bit noisy from above, it is under the pool area, but not too bad.
A/C fan in ceiling a bit noisy.
Beds mattresses both past their use by dates.
Raining on and off, so had to use taxi's into and out of town. $5 each way per person.
Not much business for the water taxi's today also $5 each way per person.
Booze prices have dropped a bit since few months ago so back to excellent.
Just went into town, had coffee, get some free internet and walk around. Been here plenty of times.
Can use Australian money.
