I have cruised Regent almost exclusively for several years. Their level of service, their food quality, and excursions have all declined in quality. I am not sure if this is due to the economy, the fact that Norwegian Cruise Lines is losing money, shortages of staff, or cost-cutting measures.
We sailed the subject itinerary. At first, we were given economy air that arrived in Anchorage at 12:59 AM on the day of sailing with no provisions for even rudimentary sleeping arrangements. When we asked what Regent would do for us, it was basically nothing. We ended up upgrading our reservation to get in a day earlier and enjoy sub-standard accommodations at the Anchorage Hilton.
The ship has been recently "refurbished", but we have sailed it several times, and other than newer drapes, we noticed little change from previous cruises. We ended up staying in an Explorer Suite with a butler who was less than accommodating. We had reservations for the specialty restaurants, but when we attempted to book another reservation at Prime 7, nothing was available. By the way, meals were a complete disappointment. My 16-ounce veal chop, medium rare, at Prime 7, it turned out to be 8 ounces well-done. The onion rings were outstanding. All other meals were mediocre at best. Service was also notably poor everywhere, especially in the Veranda restaurant.
Well appointed. Closet space is inadequate. We prefer Penthouse on this ship.
The ship did not get within three miles of this glacier.
Misty Fiords boat ride. Avoid this excursion completely especially on rainy days. Just a very long, boring trip with minimal time in the Misty Fiords.
