Just came off the Silhouette after 12 day cruise. Overall it was a unexpectedly poor experience primarily due to the severe overcrowding, every cabin packed, including many families with small children. All cabins were booked, lots of cabins seemed to be filled with families with 1-3 kids. I realize this was school holiday period in UK so we expected some amount of kids, but we thought given length of trip, and what we paid in the US for the trip, it would have catered to more of an adult demographic. The overcrowding and lack of early and aggressive sanitation measures to mitigate the crowding, produced a lot of sick people in short order. During the cruise progressively more and more people became ill, including my wife and I with head and chest colds. After the first 7-8 days onboard, it was almost impossible to find an area on the ship where they were not people cough and hacking. The over crowding caused the buffet on 14 too often to be an unruly, chaotic mess during popular periods. Open tables were scarce to non existent. In terms of the overall food and dining venues, it was just OK at best, basically food service very similar to Las Vegas banquet style cooking that is done to serve thousands of people at the same time. It was not not high end or fine dining by any real measure. Menus were cleverly constructed to creatively describe dishes that sounded much batter that they looked or tasted. I admit that feeding over 3,000 people almost at once 3 meals a day is a miracle and Celebrity to their credit, did it safely, fast and efficiently, but is was an "industrial" experience. The wait staff worked very hard to keep customers as happy as possible. Staff overall on Celebrity were so hardworking and courteous, but clearly stretched thin and stressed by the crowds. In terms of entertainment much of it was poor, some of it amateurish. The onboard guitarist specifically was particularly poor - most of the popular covers she played were hardly recognizable.

Over my career I spent a lot of weeks in Las Vegas for conventions and business sales shows. In summary this Celebrity Silhouette cruise experience reminded me most of spending 12 days in very crowded mid level Las Vegas casino hotel - like staying at the MGM Grand for 12 days - but being trapped inside, especially on the 6 sea days, and sadly paying almost $1000 a day for the experience. Suffice it to say we are likely done with Celebrity going forward.

Cabin Review

Cabin was OK. Mattress was clearly getting old and tired. Bathroom small but usable. hot and cold water and pressure in shower a little weak but no real issue. We did not get much use of balcony because of adjoining cabins always seemed to be using their balconies often with seemingly loud conversations goings on (often small kids or teens). too easy to hear families with young children thru the walls in joining cabins.
