We chose the Grand European River Cruise as it provided the greatest number of sites across several countries that we had never traveled to. Service on the Viking longship was extraordinary. Housekeeping was impeccable, and the meals were delicious with a lot of variety. One could choose from regional fare for standard items or even a combination of the entire menu. Our program director, Alec Finn, was awesome. He carefully explained each day's itinerary, and ensured that we knew what to expect and what to bring along to the excursion. Alec provided a knowledgeable discourse on the sites that we were observing along the rivers as we traversed during the daylight hours. Based on our experiences with this cruise, we definitely plan to take future Viking cruises, especially around Europe. My only recommendation would be that Viking needs to communicate more about the pre- and post-cruise excursions that are available. There are a couple that we would have considered had we known about them. However, we booked our cruise through a travel agent, so perhaps she was not aware of the additional pre and post excursions that were available.
The cabin was wonderful with plenty of room and storage. We had a french veranda stateroom which included the balcony for outside leisure and sight-seeing.
