We took the week-long ‘Dutch Delights’ cruise from Amsterdam and back, via the IJsellmeer inland sea and both large and small rivers. This ‘Generations’ cruise had several sizeable family groups with well-behaved kids, a change from the usual mix of retirees.
We particularly enjoyed visiting the pretty small towns in Friesland and the rural far south of The Netherlands. Amsterdam is probably best experienced at your own pace as an add-on to a cruise.
The crew were generally friendly, typically from Eastern Europe, with Dutch captains sailing in their home waters.
The small cabin (14m², 150 sq ft) was the biggest negative for us, with little space around the bed. The windows don’t open on the middle deck, but the air-con was very loud even on the lowest setting and wasn’t effective either, so we found it hard to sleep in a noisy warm room. We didn’t get a response when we reported this on the mid-cruise questionnaire, so concluded it was a ship-wide issue.
