We were looking for something special to do with our adult children and daughter-in-law to celebrate several events all at the same time, including our wedding anniversary, milestone birthdays that went uncelebrated due to Covid-19, my son’s anniversary of employment, my 9-year retirement anniversary and Father’s Day. We selected Viking’ cruise upstream the Rhône River, from Avignon to Lyon, because of its passage through iconic French wine country, as we are all appreciators of fine wines. Built in to the cruise were tours at ports of call, providing activities in which we could participate as we wished. Because of the availability of these activities as parts of our cruise, little or no planning or advance arrangements were required by us.

We traveled to Avignon on our own and we’re able to easily locate our ship, the Heimdal, at the time of boarding. We found the ship to be neat and clean a Viking staff were there to greet us, check us in, and show us to our stateroom. It was all very smooth and efficiently done.

Our stateroom was clean, comfortable, and very well cared for by staff as the cruise progressed. An unexpected nicety was the presence of several 110 volt electrical sockets that did not require use of adaptors. This was useful in easily charging devices.
