We booked a group cruise with family and friends during the anniversary sale last year and were able to find a great price for two connecting balcony rooms for our family of 5. The cabin location was perfect, toward the aft of the ship, but close to the elevators. We loved the Spirit - it's a smaller, older ship but well maintained and everything was close. The elevators were all working and we hardly had any waits when moving between floors.
We spent quite a bit on time on our balconies enjoying the view and saw so many whales and other sea life. It is absolutely worth having a balcony in Alaska.
The cabin steward, Paul, did a good job. He serviced the room once daily, always had towel animals ready and ice was replenished regularly. He was friendly and always had a warm greeting for us.

Balcony
Cabin was a typical balcony cabin - plenty of space for 2 adults. Our adult children shared the connecting cabin next to us, and it was admittedly a bit tight, but doable. Since it was a connecting room you could definitely hear each other through the door when it was closed, however we did not hear our other neighbors at all. Everything worked well, and was in decent repair, although the balcony did have quite a bit of rust around some of the seams and joints. Our adult children's a/c was not working, however since we were in Alaska this was not discovered until about day 5 and it was not a huge issue. Obviously this would have been a different story in a warmer climate. We requested that the balcony divider be opened to be able to move easily back and forth and this request was granted on day 2. It was nice to have a larger balcony to share.
The bedding was standard, and the bed was comfortable. Towels were standard - everything was clean. We received service once a day with a towel animal each day. Service was good. The shower amenities are not great. Too watery and ineffective.
