First time to the Arctic and we highly recommend it. This ship was very clean and the staff were fantastic! Lack of communication when we had a shuttle into town available. Some were free, others were $20. Ricco and Jeffrey from the Gatsby bar were so friendly and engaging. This is the 2nd time on the Star and it does not disappoint. Performers did not offer two shows a night. The entertainment was not the best, but they were entertaining. With traveling the world, we would have thought we'd have a better selection of wine available with the beverage package. Specialty dinning was wonderful. We look forward to our next NCL cruise. Our flights thru NCL were cancelled, it took us two additional days to get home. It would have been nice to have been to talk with someone at the hour we needed them. Also to know how the Travel Protection worked to give us a peace. Like all cruise companies, there are areas of opportunity :o)
Good sized balcony for two people. Ample closet storage. They did a great job with maximizing storage space in such a small area. The shower water presser was fantastic!
Highly recommend this port. Take a day tour, there is soooo much to see and do. The Tectonic plates were fascinating, make sure to go into the cave to see the blue waters. Note, glasses will fog up. There are Myvatn hot baths you can visit, keep in mind they will not be blue like the Blue Lagoon. Waterfall of the Gods is another must and the Pseudo craters where Neal Armstrong trained for the moon.
Absolutely LOVE this port. Enough to do in a day or two if strolling. We just walked around. Hotel is very close and easy to get to. People are super friendly. Try the local food. Go to the Polar museum, it was charming and educational. Go the The Roof Top bar at the Clarion for wonderful views of the harbor. Casa Inferno had wonderful pizza and ambiance. Egon restaurant had good food and a fun touristy vibe. If you don't make it to this Magic Ice bar, there are a few more in other towns. The cable car was closed due to high winds, so don't put it off.
We did not find anything to do there other than local shops and a mall. Cute restaurants to visit.
Not much to do other than the Polar Bear Association should you want to join. Exclusive club, only place you can join. Sweet Fantasy's is a MUST! Their waffles were incredible.
We had to tender, but was no biggy. We went to the Tourist shop to figure out what to do. Definitely visit the Cathedral and pay to see the show they offer in the basement about the Northern Lights. Other than that, not much to do.
Going to North Cape is a must, plan on two hours, we took a tour that included it! Blue Puffin tours was exceptional. Learned about King crabs. Eat there because they can't sell to restaurants. Restaurants serve frozen King crab. There is a church in town that also has great views. Many reindeer were spotted. The fishing trip we visited was soooo charming and met a local artist, Eva Slavek who is very talented. Don't feel the need to visit the Sami family who have a few reindeer unless you want a souvenir.
Fifteen minute walk from the port. Go to the University museum and noodle around town. We took a tour that took us to the Global seed vault, very interesting. Take a tour around the area to learn about their water source etc. They drive by the dog sledding places. Not a fan on how they take care of them :o( Fun fact: Tom Cruise had filmed a movie there. If you like beer, this is the place for tastings, not to mention the most Northern brewery. Svalsbar has good local foods.
Take a day tour to check out waterfalls. No need to visit the local farm, not many animals and only two toilets in a private home for 100s of people (They are in the process of adding another) The cake and hospitality was very good.
Take the HOHO bus and go the Perlan museum. We also went to the cathedral and had lunch at the diner close by. Also, take a day tour to the South Coast, it was amazing! Got to see glaciers too and a few villages along with the Black Sand beach with basalt columns.....God is amazing! So many waterfalls and Icelandic ponies. Check out Justin Bieber's Iceland video that has many of this in it.
