We have taken Viking River cruises in Europe, but this is our first cruise on their Expedition class ships. We loved the attention to detail, good food, service and thoughtful excursions on the river cruises, and this cruise was no exception. We were greeted by our steward as we arrived at the cabin and warmly welcomed. The ship is very comfortable, and the number of passengers is small enough that you never feel part of a crowd.

We particularly enjoyed the ability to follow and participate with the scientists onboard, and the many chances to explore the waters around the ship in zodiacs and special operations boats. The guides were fascinating, knowledgable, and collegial.

Food was good, especially in the themed restaurants, and the wine selection was very good. There were plenty of opportunities for quiet time and for gazing at the wildlife and surrounding nature. We liked that there was a relaxed "elegant casual" dress code for dinners.
