We chose Havila because the ship (actually the Castor, the same model and age is the listed Capella) has a capacity of only some 400 passengers, so is able to navigate the various Arctic fjords on the long northern route up from Bergen all the way to the top of Norway and back. The very high cruise critic ratings for this cruise all proved true - great scenery, Northern Lights visible even in early April (twice!), tasty food/attentive service with menus and waiters at preassigned tables instead of buffets. Havila even promises a free cruise if you book one between February - end of March and don't see the Northern Lights. The passengers are primarily Norwegian and German but all communications are also done in English. Nights are tranquil (no entertainment except for the Northern Lights !). Views are incredible of the Arctic snow-capped peaks. The ship's store has an excellent selection of high quality apparel with attentive yet subtle assistance from Sven and staff. The ship, Havila Castor, is practically brand new and in great condition. Some of the stops like Bergen itself and Tromso have cable cars up mountains with breathtaking views of the fjord terrain below.

Port Reviews

A charming city with great view from the Ulrich (?) mountain easily reached by cable car. There are plenty of good restaurants as well, plus day excursions for hiking etc. in the right season.
