I am not posting this review to be negative on MSC. I just want to give a review of someone who is just a blue collar working stiff. The initial cruise price was a big part of the decision to choose this 7 day Bahamas cruise. It seemed too good to be real. A room with a balcony for 7 days for under 700.00 each double occupancy, wow. Perhaps my inexperience(only 4 cruises) in cruise travel is to blame when I say that when you travel Bella class on MSC, it is like traveling on Spirit Airlines where everything else costs extra. The last three were on other cruise lines and only 4 day cruises to be fair so I don't know if they really compare except the bottled water, snorkels and entertainment were all included. The prior cuises had about half the passengers. This ship was pretty full with over 4250 onboard. On this MSC cruise if you want to use the mini fridge(minibar) in your cabin? That is extra. Want room service? Extra. A bottled water(like the size Walmart sells by the case for 5 bucks? They are 4 bucks a bottle. In the minibar, a 1.7 ounce mini bottle of vodka/rum/gin(the kind you buy at liquor store counters for around 1.50) costs 10 bucks a pop. Want orange juice with that? 4 bucks. A mixed drink you make from your own minibar will cost you 14.00, and that is before you ordered ice from room service, with a minimum delivery fee of 10.00: things add up very fast in Bella class. Yes, you can get a drink package for around 400.00 per person(you have to buy two packages, one for each double occupancy traveler) . My son was underage so that didn't fly. I have been to other private islands with about the same setup as MSC, except it is another profit center. Want a beach umbrella? 15 bucks. Want snorkels? Sold out . Oh well, next time book early, with 4250 travelers onboard things vaporize, but if we had them, 32 bucks each. Your son read that we have a video game arcade? Yeah, the formula one game is 12 bucks a game. Oh, the Star wars flight simulators are all down for repairs(for the entire trip). Want to get a taco at the Hola's taco restaurant? Its 10 bucks. Want to park at the cruise terminal? 45 dollars per DAY. There are no other parking alternatives nearby. There are no park and cruise hotels in the area for the Brooklyn Cruise terminal. That means if you are driving from out of town, expect to pay 360.00 for the privilege of parking at the terminal. You also become aware that there are two classes of travelers onboard. The Yacht club and the rest of us. Yacht club members are treated very well, with express lines, their own special areas only they can access on the ship, with all the perks you wish you could afford but unfortunately you didn't inherit money and aren't a trust fund baby. The food was fine, and plenty of it in the main buffets. I didn't come onboard to stuff my face with free buffet food, but after seeing the prices at the specialty restaurants, it became my main sustenance. The juice machines with cranberry, fruit drink and lemonade were working well the first day, then they started breaking down. God forbid you got between the food and some very large, rude cruisers; there were plenty of them just stuffing themselves nonstop. Being American, it was a weird feeling to see the two different classes(Yacht Club and everyone else) separated in different areas of the ship. This is a one and done cruise for this ship. I will be going back to smaller ships without the first and second class feeling. PS, we were in Balcony Bella class. Most of the passengers were in good spirits and easy to socialize with. I speak 3 languages(English, French, Spanish), so there was no language barrier on this Italian liner.
