Sail Date: May 2023

Virgin offers several different itineraries of this cruise. This sailing specifically went to Toulon (Monday), Marina di Carrara (Tuesday), Ajaccio, Corsica (Wednesday), Day at Sea (Thursday), Ibiza (Friday, overnight to Saturday), Barcelona to Disembark (Sunday). When we originally booked the cruise it also included a port stop in Olbia Sardinia on Thursday but that was eliminated based on customer feedback according to the email we received about 4 months before the cruise.

We were sailing as a group of 6 people, 4 Americans and 2 Germans ranging in age from 54 to 82. We all had balcony cabins (decks 9 and 11).

The sailing was not even half full. Crew told us that there were 1,100 passengers on the ship and that had been approximately the number for the previous 2 sailings. The sailing following us also had a similar number. With so few passengers the ship never felt crowded, although we didn't go to the night club or shows, so it is possible that those venues might have felt different.

Cabin Review

The cabin was average size. We appreciated that there were plenty of electrical outlets (USA standard) and USB power outlets. No electrical outlet in the bathroom. The water pressure and temperature in the shower were excellent. The balcony furniture and hammock were comfortable. Drawer space is somewhat limited and I was happy that I had read the hint on Cruise Critic to bring a hanging closet organizer, it really helped, as did requesting extra hangers. Room temperature was good as long as you remember to latch the balcony door. The in-room entertainment system is comparable to in-flight movie systems (we never watched anything).

Port Reviews

Toulon

The ship docks very close to the town center and the little tourist train is right there for 10 Euros. Interestingly, if you take the little tourist train from the town center, it only costs 8 Euros. Toulon has a very nice downtown area and there is a terrific indoor shopping center if you discover you have forgotten anything. If you are looking for something historical to do, the Maritime Naval Museum is excellent and has an English audio tour that was terrific (5.50 Euros for admission if you let them know you are from a cruise ship). There is a harbor cruise to see the French warships but the narration is only in French.
