Could do better

Sail Date: June 2010
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Southampton
Starting off when we made enquiries about the cruise we were offered £50 each on board spend as shown in the brochure by the time we booked a week later this was dropped as the price we paid was classed as a late deal. There is no indication of this on the page in the book that the on board spend is only for full fare paying travelers.

We arrive at Southhampton and were smoothly herded onto the ship. The cabin was small with a broken mirror. Day two the mirror is removed and replace on day four. The bedding had clean sheets but the pillows had a nasty niff these were changed for laundered pillows that had rocks in them! There is a need to launder the pillow and mattress protectors more often. The cabin needed better cleaning we found a pair of black socks and a note book which had been left by previous occupants.

Entertainment could be better I waited half an hour to book into the deck quoits only to be told off when Gavin turned up (late) for not being there More earlier! There was no aqua fit and one of the four pools is kept for the staff to use. Children were using the adults pools as there is no supervision of the pool areas. Waiter service in the restaurant varied from excellent to very poor one evening it took two and a half hours to be served. Food with the exception of a piece of chicken that enjoyed a very long life was good.

The ship had a faulty engine while we were on board and I must say that the captain did keep us informed and did well to reschedule the trip to include Rome and Florence. The launderette is a great idea. Just felt that the whole experience could have been better. Maybe its just I have been spoiled in the past! I felt that is was like a floating caravan on a holiday camp. Bye D Bye! Less

Too small very like a caravan. Rust from the balcony has marked some of our clothes. Shower and toilet area very small. We were mid ship on the starboard side thankfully away from the smokers (Port side deck 7) It would be great if the ships were all non smoking.

Port and Shore Excursions

I would suggest that it would have been better not to have visited both Florence and Pisa. We did both and had a meal included in the trip all too rushed for me on a hot day. Better to to buy a sandwich and spend more time looking at the surroundings. Our tour guide was a Russian in a rush!

Pick up the little train at the port and see the town. There is Plenty to see and could do with being in port longer. Places to visit Gardens x2, Palace look out for the changing of the guards at lunchtime. Shopping, Fruit Market, Aquarium, and plenty of eye candy in sports cars!

Another great place to visit there is a local open top bus just outside the port Cheap fares and an interesting way to get the lay of the land. If you would like to see the coliseum don't bother with the museum go around the back of the building and see it for free.

Gibralter I have been here before and we did our own thing great day found a local minibus driver who was great. Interesting place to visit. Watch out for the monkeys one of our party had one land on her back.
