Fred Olsen had cancelled Corinth Canal cruise after waiting 3 years and their standards have been cut back so much recently that we thought we would try the new Cruise & Maritime replacement company Ambassador. First impression of the ship was good - cabin spacious and well equipped and public areas clean and smart. Unfortunately we soon discovered that we were on "Butlins on Sea" with music and announcements screamed at us on full volume. Many people requested that the sound on deck and in the theatre be turned down lower but the young cruise director's response was total bafflement and a scornful shrug. We spoke to many people who had been on previous cruises on the ship and were disappointed to discover that the more professional staff had all been moved onto the new ship Ambition. However there were several excellent crew members, in particular our cabin steward Eddi, a couple of the bar staff and one of the best omelette makers I have ever come across! Food in the dining-room repetitive and bland - I understand from others that when this was mentioned to the Maitre-d his response was "they're British and they prefer tasteless food". Overall view - such a pity. This new venture should work. The ship may be old but it is the right size for the age of the audience it is trying to attract. It just needs the problems sorted out and a change of management. Incidentally, 3 days after returning home I tested positive for Covid for the first time despite constant use of hand-gel.
